Ureteric Stone Removal
What is Ureteric Stone Removal (URSL Surgery)?
(Ureteroscopy + Laser Stone Removal)
URSL (Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy) is a modern, minimally invasive procedure to remove stones stuck in the ureter—the narrow tube connecting the kidney and bladder. A thin endoscope is passed through the urinary passage (without making any cuts), and the stone is broken using laser energy, which is then removed or flushed out.
Dr. Davinder Singh regularly performs URSL with high success rates and a fast recovery, ensuring patients return to their normal lives without pain or complications.
Who Needs URSL?
URSL is best for patients who have:
- Moderate to large ureteric stones (usually 5–15 mm)
- Stones that don’t pass on their own
- Severe pain, infection, or blockage
- Failed medical or shockwave treatments
How URSL Works
- No cut, no stitches
- A thin ureteroscope is passed through the urethra into the ureter
- Stone is located and broken using a Holmium Laser
- Fragments are either removed or left to pass naturally
- A temporary stent (DJ stent) may be placed for drainage
- Done under spinal or general anesthesia
Procedure time: 30–60 minutes
Hospital stay: Usually same day or 1 night
Benefits of URSL
✅
- Completely scarless
- Quick and safe removal of ureteric stones
- Less pain and faster recovery
- Suitable even for patients with diabetes or older age
- A DJ stent helps healing and prevents blockage after surgery
